This sensor can realize continuous monitoring of liquid level, accurately measure the height of materials by transmitting and receiving radar waves, and can quickly reflect changes in liquid level.
Radar is classified into contact level measurement (guided wave radar) and non-contact level measurement technology, which can provide reliable data in a variety of application scenarios. Whether in high temperature, high pressure or corrosive environment, this sensor can work stably, so it is widely used in liquid level monitoring and control systems in chemical, petroleum, food and pharmaceutical industries. Through its high precision and adaptability, radar level sensor effectively improves the safety and efficiency of the production process.
Product Introduction
Radar level transmitters may be made of any of the following technologies: Contact level measurement and non-contact level measurement technology.
Contact measurement
Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter:Measurements are made using guided wave radar probes. This contact measurement or intrusive transmitter uses time domain reflectometry (TDR) where the probe penetrates deep into dry or bulk media to detect the propagation of electromagnetic waves. The TDR probe design eliminates obstructions in the wave path, thus eliminating signal loss. The technology is highly resistant to high temperatures, pressures and environmental damage, making it suitable for use in harsh operating conditions. With virtually no maintenance required, this technology is well suited for high-end industrial applications and is widely used in guided wave radar level sensors and guided wave radar level transmitters.
Non contact radar level sensor
For non-contact radar type level gauge, the microwave frequencies emitted by SOLIDAT radar products can be divided into: low frequency radar below 26GHz and high frequency FMCW radar above 78GHZ.
Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) Transmitter:
FMCW technology radar transmitters operate with radar antennas. The radar antenna is responsible for transmitting the signals, and the receiver captures these signals within a specific time window. These time readings are taken into account when taking level measurements. FMCW radar transmitters transmit high-frequency continuous signals with gradually increasing frequencies. This frequency change process is called frequency sweeping. In this way, the technology can achieve continuous measurements. This radar transmitter is basically a non-contact level transmitter.

The key links in the steel manufacturing process include coal coking, sintering and ironmaking. In these links, equipment such as coal storage, coke storage, gas tanks, etc. play an important role. Due to the presence of solid materials, strong dust and low dielectric constant in the working environment, high-frequency pulse radar level meters are usually selected for measurement. For substances such as crude benzene and coal tar, due to their volatile and crystallized characteristics, guided wave radar level meters are more suitable.

The coal industry also faces problems such as solid material measurement and strong dust when handling raw coal, pulverized coal and coal gangue. Therefore, high-frequency pulse radar level meters are also the main choice.

The production process of the cement industry involves multiple storage links, such as raw material warehouses, clinker warehouses, etc. The working conditions of these links are similar to those of the above industries, so it is also recommended to use high-frequency pulse radar level meters for measurement.

In the production process of thermal power, hydropower and biopower generation in the power industry, the links that need to be measured include raw coal bunkers, circulating water pools, etc. Depending on the working conditions, high-frequency pulse radar level meter, guided wave radar level meter or low-frequency radar level meter may be selected for measurement.

When the non-ferrous metallurgical industry processes metals such as aluminum, nickel, zinc, and titanium, the slurry tank, dissolution tank and other equipment in its production process need to work in high temperature, strong water vapor and corrosion environments. Therefore, these factors need to be considered when selecting a level meter, and guided wave radar or low-frequency radar level meter is usually selected. High-frequency radar level meter can still be selected for solid measurement.

When the water conservancy industry conducts hydrological monitoring, flood prevention alarm and farmland irrigation, factors such as signal transmission distance, power supply voltage and installation location need to be considered. Therefore, radar waves with a smaller beam angle are usually selected for measurement, and high-frequency radar level meters with MODBUS protocol are selected.

In the production process of the food and pharmaceutical industries, equipment such as edible oil tanks and soybean meal storage tanks need to meet certain hygiene requirements. In this case, a high-frequency radar level meter is usually selected for measurement, and a sealed antenna that meets hygiene conditions is selected.

In the chemical industry, crude oil depots, gasoline tanks and other equipment in the production links of petrochemicals and coal chemicals need to face various complex working conditions. According to actual needs, high-frequency pulse radar level meters, guided wave radar level meters or low-frequency radar level meters may be selected for measurement.

The environmental protection and water treatment industries involve multiple links in the treatment of sewage, such as water collection wells, biochemical reaction pools, etc. According to the working conditions of different links, guided wave radar level meters, high-frequency radar level meters or ultrasonic level meters may be selected for measurement.

In the production links of the semiconductor industry, equipment such as silicon micropowder warehouses need to deal with working conditions such as low dielectric constants and strong dust. Therefore, high-frequency radar level meters are the main choice for this industry.
Radar level transmitter working principle
The core working principle of the radar level transmitter includes three steps: transmission, reflection and reception. The radar sensor transmits electromagnetic waves in the form of beams through the antenna. These waves are reflected back on the surface of the target material, and the reflected signal is received by the antenna again. The system samples each point in the transmitted and reflected beams, and after processing by the intelligent processor, calculates the distance between the medium and the probe, and transmits the result to the terminal display for display, alarm and operation. In the time interval between transmission and reception, the antenna system acts as a receiving device to analyze the echo signal, and the processing time is less than one billionth of a second to achieve fast and accurate echo analysis.
The radar sensor uses a unique time interval adjustment technology to amplify and locate the echo signal every second, and then analyze and process it. In this way, the radar sensor can accurately process these amplified echo signals within 0.1 seconds without the need for long-term frequency analysis.
The main advantage of radar level meter is its excellent performance in harsh environments. It can effectively measure toxic or corrosive media, solid, liquid, dusty or slurry substances. Specifically, in radar level measurement, it has the following characteristics:
Continuous and accurate measurement
Due to the unique characteristics of electromagnetic waves, its measurement applications are very wide and will not be disturbed by the environment. Non-contact radar level sensor is a special measuring device whose probe does not touch the surface of the medium, so non-contact measurement can be achieved. This measurement method can quickly and accurately measure the liquid level of different media, and the probe is almost unaffected by factors such as temperature, pressure, and gas.
With interference echo suppression function
For example, the interference echo of the joint within the beam range or the interference echo caused by the noise of feeding and discharging can be automatically suppressed by the internal fuzzy logic control system.
Accurate, safe and energy-saving
The radar level meter can measure in vacuum or high pressure environment, showing high accuracy and safety, and has strong adaptability, suitable for almost any occasion. The materials used not only have stable chemical and mechanical properties, but also have good recycling characteristics, which is very environmentally friendly.
Maintenance-free and highly adaptable
Microwave technology is almost free from interference and does not directly contact the measured medium, so it can be used in a variety of situations such as vacuum environment, liquid level measurement or material level measurement. With the application of advanced materials, this technology has strong tolerance to complex chemical and physical conditions and can provide accurate, reliable and long-term stable analog or digital signals.
Easy maintenance and easy operation
The radar level meter is equipped with fault alarm and self-diagnosis functions. The error code provided by the operation display module is used to analyze the problem, and the fault can be quickly identified and solved. This makes the maintenance and calibration process more convenient and accurate, ensuring the stable operation of the instrument.
Widely used, suitable for almost all media
The radar level meter can measure tanks of various shapes, including spherical tanks, horizontal tanks, cylindrical tanks and conical tanks. In addition, it is also suitable for level monitoring of storage tanks, buffer tanks, microwave tubes and bypass pipes. In terms of media type, it can measure a variety of media such as liquids, particles and slurries.
Radar level transmitters are not only suitable for a variety of solid materials, but also capable of measuring the level of liquids and slurries. This instrument can operate stably under various temperatures, pressures, steam gas mixtures and process conditions. Its main applications include:

Commonly used types include universal type, sanitary type, hoisting type, anti-corrosion type, flange type, threaded type, high temperature type, raindrop type, etc. The microwave signal emitted by the antenna is reflected and refracted in the liquid level medium and then received by the receiver, thus forming the working principle of the radar level sensor.
Receiving processor
The receiver is used to receive the microwave signal reflected from the surface of the measured liquid. The processor is the intelligent part of the radar level meter, which is responsible for processing the microwave signal received by the receiver.
Display
The display is the human-machine interface of the radar level meter. It usually displays various data output by the processor in the form of text, numbers, curves, etc. Different types of displays can be selected according to user needs, such as LCD, Bluetooth, etc. LCD displays are widely used in various industrial environments. Bluetooth is more convenient for on-site debugging.
Other components
In addition to the above components, the radar level meter also has some other components, such as antenna mounting bracket, signal attenuator, isolator, filter, etc. These components play an auxiliary role in the system and ensure the accuracy, stability and reliability of radar level measurement.
1.Regular maintenance
Regular maintenance of the radar level meter is a key step to ensure its normal operation, including the following inspections: confirm that the appearance of the equipment is not damaged, the probe is kept clean, the connection parts are not loose, and the display screen is working properly. In addition, the grounding of the equipment should also be checked to ensure good grounding to prevent electromagnetic interference from affecting the performance of the equipment.
2.Keep the equipment clean
The probe of the radar level meter is its key component and needs special attention to its cleanliness. When checking, wipe the probe surface with a clean soft cloth to prevent stains and impurities from adhering. At the same time, the outer shell of the level meter should be cleaned regularly to remove dust and dirt to ensure the heat dissipation effect and normal operation of the equipment.
3.Prevent strong vibration
As a high-precision instrument, the radar level meter may be damaged by strong vibration. Therefore, severe vibration should be avoided as much as possible during installation and use. If the equipment is installed in an environment with large vibration, appropriate vibration reduction measures should be taken, such as using rubber washers.
4.Regular calibration
The accuracy of the radar level meter is the key to its performance and needs to be calibrated regularly to maintain its accuracy. Calibration methods include comparison with standard equipment or testing with a level gauge of known height. If errors are found in the equipment, adjustments or repairs should be made in a timely manner to ensure its measurement accuracy.
5.Pay attention to the working environment
The performance of the radar level meter is significantly affected by the working environment. First, it should be avoided from using it in extreme conditions, such as high temperature, high pressure or strong corrosive environment, which may damage the equipment. Secondly, it is necessary to ensure that the power supply of the equipment is stable to prevent the impact of voltage fluctuations on the equipment. In addition, the cable connection should be checked regularly to ensure good contact to avoid problems with signal transmission.
