Installation precautions

Applicability to process conditions: The process interface of the horn type radar level meter can meet the process conditions that occur, including process pressure, process temperature and chemical properties of the medium.

Suitability for environmental conditions: The instrument is suitable for general and other environmental conditions according to DIN/EN/IEC/ANSI/ISA/UL/CSA61010-1.

Mounting position: Select a mounting position that is convenient for installation and wiring, and also for subsequent removal of the display and adjustment module. The housing can be rotated by 330° without the use of any tools. In addition, the display and adjustment module can be rotated in steps of 90°.

Welding work: Remove the electronics from the horn type radar level meter sensor before welding work on the vessel. This will prevent damage to the electronics due to inductive coupling. Before welding, ground the measuring probe directly via a rod or rope.

Use: For threaded versions, do not screw in the housing! Tightening can damage the swivel mechanism of the housing. When screwing in, use the hexagonal tool provided for this purpose.

Moisture: You should guide the connecting cable downwards before threading the cable, thereby additionally preventing moisture from entering your instrument. This way, rainwater and condensation will flow downwards. This is particularly suitable when installing the instrument outdoors, in rooms where moisture can enter (e.g. due to cleaning processes) or in cooling or heating vessels. Make sure that the protection class of the instrument is maintained so that the housing remains closed during operation and is secured if necessary.

Vessel shape: Always install the capacitive measuring probe vertically or parallel to a counter electrode as far as possible. This applies in particular to non-conductive media. In horizontal round tanks, spherical tanks or other asymmetrically shaped tanks, non-linear level values are obtained due to the different distances to the vessel wall. For non-conductive media, use a sealing tube or linearize the measuring signal.

Condensation: If condensation occurs on the vessel cover, the running liquid can form bridges and thus lead to measuring errors. Therefore, use a shielding tube or a longer insulating tube. Its length depends on the amount of condensation and the flow of the medium.

Cable entry - NPT thread Cable gland:

Metric thread

The cable gland is screwed into the instrument housing with metric thread before leaving the factory. It is plugged with a plastic plug to protect it during transport. The plug must be removed before making the electrical connection.

NPT thread

For instrument housings with self-sealing NPT threads, cable glands must not be screwed in at the factory. Therefore, for protection during transport, the free cable entries are closed with red dust caps. Before commissioning, you must replace these protective caps with approved cable glands or close the openings with suitable blind plugs.
