USING GAUGERNET with MODBUS-TCP (GATEWAY)

Modbus-TCP option for GaugerNET provides a convenient scheme for obtaining data from fielded GaugerGSM sensors. This option is available for any SCADA or monitoring software supporting Modbus-TCP. In terms of the Modbus community, GaugerNET implements a Modbus Gateway funtionality. The use of Modbus-TCP interface to GaugerNET is an alternative to direct reading of GaugerGSM sensors. Direct sensor reading is more efficient than the indirect route through GaugerNET but involves software development efforts. GaugerNET Modbus-TCP supports one "write-registers" command and one "read-registers" command. The read command is aimed to a unit ID which is mapped to GaugerGSM sensor name. GaugerNET also supports standard legal responses as well as responses to illegal commands.

GAUGERNET ARCHITECTURE

GaugerNET is a 3-server structure: Listener, Presenter and Gateway. Listener is a PHP application running on Linux server and implements a TCP socket listener for fielded GaugerGSM and GaugerGPS sensors. Data is stored in a MySQL database. Presenter is a PHP/HTML web server for users, presenting charts, tables and maps. Gateway is a PHP application running on Linux server. Gateway implements a Modbus TCP Gateway function. Gateway accepts Modbus requests for sensor data and responds with data read from MySQL.

MODBUS REQUEST MESSAGE FUNCTION CODE 0x10 (WRITE REGISTERS)

Meaning: Write characters AB C+ ab characters to registers numbers (decimal) 100, 101, 102.

MODBUS-TCP MESSAGE FLOW

GAUGERNET Gateway implements Modbus Class 0 commands: 0x03 (read) and 0x10 (write). A predefined write request must precede a read request. A write request activates the Gateway to respond to following read requests. Activation is ON for 10 minutes. Clients may send a write request prior to each read request. Alternatively, clients can send one write request followed by a series of read requests as long as 10 minute activation timeout has not passed. Response to a read request when Gateway is not activated will result in an exception response 0x0A.
