Analysis Of Interference Types Affecting Radar Level Measurement

Oct 31, 2024|

Radar level measurement utilizes electromagnetic waves to function. The radar level sensor working principle involves emitting electromagnetic waves to measure a specific liquid level. These waves provide accurate measurement data after being reflected by the medium. However, in industrial environments, Sources of Radar Interference factors can affect their performance. We can explore the radar interference sources from four aspects: external interference, internal interference, DC interference, and AC interference.

External interference includes celestial interference (such as electromagnetic waves from the sun and stars), mechanical interference (displacement of instrument components due to external vibrations), humidity interference (high humidity reducing resistance and measurement accuracy), chemical interference (the impact of corrosive gases on the instrument), thermal interference (heat generated by the equipment altering the ambient temperature), and optical interference (light affecting the conductivity of semiconductor components).

Internal interference mainly arises from the interaction between the power transformer and internal electronic components; noise interference should not be overlooked. Modern radar level measurement has effectively enhanced its anti-interference capability through the application of high-frequency microwave technology.

DC interference occurs in the measurement circuit, possibly due to additional thermoelectric potential, chemical potential, or contact with a DC power source, all of which can disrupt the normal operation of radar level measurement.

AC interference can be categorized into line-to-line interference and ground interference, primarily arising from electromagnetic induction, high-temperature leaks, and ground currents.

Understanding these interference sources and taking appropriate anti-interference measures during the installation and use of radar level gauges will ensure their optimal performance.
