Radar level gauges often have errors when measuring complex working conditions. In addition to the complex radar level measurement environment, what other factors may cause radar measurement errors?

 

Factors affecting radar measurement errors

 

One of the main reasons is the static pressure of the measured liquid. Static pressure may cause radial expansion of the tank, which in turn causes the tank to shrink in the vertical direction. Although the correction of static pressure is considered in the calculation, the longitudinal displacement of the tank wall is usually not corrected, which causes radar level measurement errors.

In addition, temperature changes can also affect the accuracy of radar level gauges. Steel plates change their dimensions under the action of thermal expansion and contraction, especially oil tanks and their stabilizing tubes when the air or oil temperature changes. If no corresponding correction is made, the reference height will change due to expansion or contraction, thus affecting the radar level measurement results.

Although the radar level gauge can correct the reference height during operation, this correction is usually only applicable to a specific liquid level. During the inflow of liquid, random changes in the temperature and static pressure of the liquid will also affect the reference height, so it becomes very difficult to make real-time corrections.

Even if the radar level gauge has high accuracy, it may still have errors in certain situations. As long as these errors are within the process requirements, they usually do not affect production, but help improve production efficiency and quality. Therefore, when choosing radar level measurement, various factors must be considered comprehensively and trials must be carried out when necessary.
