Liquid Ammonia Tank Measurement Technology: Installation And Maintenance Of Cable-type Guided Wave Radar Level Gauge

Aug 23, 2024|

In the chemical industry, the widespread use of liquid ammonia has made liquid ammonia level measurement a focus of attention for enterprises. Liquid ammonia is a hazardous chemical, so choosing a suitable level gauge is crucial. Servo level gauges and guided wave radar level transmitters are common choices. Among them, guided wave radar level gauges are a contact-type measurement radar level gauge, which are mainly of three types: rod type, cable type and coaxial type. Usually, the measurement range of rod type and coaxial type does not exceed 6 meters, while the range of cable-type guided wave radar level gauges can reach 30 meters. Therefore, cable-type guided wave radar level gauges have more advantages in measuring liquid ammonia, especially in large storage tanks.

Liquid Ammonia Cable Guided Wave Radar

Cable-type guided wave radar level gauges transmit radar waves through cables, and have the advantages of concentrated energy, stable signals and high measurement accuracy. Their operating costs are also relatively low, which has obvious advantages over other measurement methods. For the installation of liquid ammonia storage tanks, it is recommended to use top flange installation, but there are several precautions during the installation process:

First, set a bracket at the bottom opposite the flange to fix the cable probe to prevent the cable from swaying or hitting the wall, ensuring accurate liquid ammonia level measurement.

Second, choosing the right cable length is very critical and should be calculated based on the height of the flange and bracket. The cable should not be pulled too tight or curved, which may affect the measurement results.

Third, when installing the detection component of the cable-type guided wave radar, avoid being close to the feed port, discharge port, tank wall and tank facilities to prevent interference echoes from affecting the measurement accuracy.

In general, when using a cable-type guided wave radar level meter to measure liquid ammonia, you need to pay attention to the above aspects to ensure accurate measurement.
